German Letter dated 3.6.1941 from Leo Botknecht in Hut 1, No. 2 Internment Camp, Victoria Mr Grünfeld, 639 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay North, Sydney I expect that you got my letter of the 1st May in which I tell you about my parents arrival in USA. These days I got the first letter from them from Brooklyn. I am very happy both are and look well. From my change of address you can see I have been transferred from the previous camp. The food is good as well as the treatment by the Australian officers. Our status has so far not changed, neither has nothing either changed in the attitude of Washington’s immigration authorities. I am well, hope the same applied for you, your wife and brother and his family. Because of “shortages of space” I need to finish. With hope to hear from you soon again. I remain … Yours Leo

Description From Source	width: 205 mm, height: 305 mm Handwritten letter in German on paper which can be folded into an envelope from Leo Botknecht, internee No 54622 to Siegmund Grunfeld of Rose Bay and bears a censor’s mark. Leo informs Sigmund that he has finally received a letter from his parents and they are doing well. He has been moved to another camp but he is still treated well. No progress has been made on his immigration to the USA. He wishes Siegmunds family well and hopes to hear from him soon. Note: on the outside of the envelope the language is marked “written in German”.
