Papers of enemy aliens interned in Australia, 1914-1919

The enemy aliens interned were mainly German but also Austro-Hungarians, Italians and Japanese. There were three main groups - civilian internees shipped from Eastern ports, selected naturalised Australians and Australian born men of German descent, and prisoners of war captured in naval engagements or transferred from allied ports. Camps included those at Torrens Island, South Australia (1914-1915), Holsworthy, Liverpool, New South Wales (1914-1920) and Trial Bay, northern New South Wales (1915-July 1918)
