Abstract

Ernst Hoffmann was born on 6 June 1929 in Palestine and died in New South Wales on 23 April 1987. He was the second son of Theodor Samuel Hoffman and Luise, nee Hardegg. His family belonged to the Tempelgesellschaft. Interned in Palestine during World War II, the Hoffmann family were among those Templers who were forcibly transported to Australia where they were further interned. They were released in 1946 and settled in Australia. The file contains three groups of letters: Letter 1 to 7, sent by Friedel Ruff, all written in German; Dance partner of Hoffmann in Tatura No. 3 Internment Camp. Letter 8 sent by his mother Luise Hoffmann, in German; Letter 9 to 16, sent by Gordon Ritter, some letters written in German and some in English. Ritter and Hoffmann attended the same class of German school in Tatura No. 3 Internment Camp.
