Abstract
"Teaching Ancient Culture In Australia", Pix, Vol. 3 No. 18 (6 May 1939) "....Australian-born Chinese are encouraged to read, write and speak the Chinese language as fluently as that of their adopted country. In Townsville—Queensland —the small Chinese community engaged a teacher in Hong-Kong to supervise a school of approximately 20 pupils whose ages range from five to 16 years. Teacher calls for a bright boy to recognise “CAT” in Chinese characters." Includes images of student Alva Goon Chew.
