There are three ways that the site groups materials together.

The first is by language, which presents different materials in languages other than English (or Indigenous languages) relevant to different aspects of Australian history. Languages with significant amounts of material have their own additional pages.

The second is by the six key periods in Australian history since colonisation on which the OMAA project focusses. These key periods are important moments related to the making of modern Australia.

The third highlights significant people who are connected to archival material. These people are also grouped on the network diagrams that can be found through the buttons in the archive section.
