“Relating to [the exhibition of] Australian Wines from Victoria at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889 …Victorian wines were presented to the public in the Châlet des Vins in the Trocadéro Gardens.They were a popular success and also garnered great critical acclaim, with St Huberts (Paul de Castella and Andrew Rowan, Lilydale) receiving the ultimate accolade, the prestigious Grand Prix, and gold medals beiing awarded tp Paul de Castella (Yering Station), de Pury (Yarra Glen), Hams Irvine (Great Western), Graham Bros. (Rutherglen), T. Blayney (Nagambie), Best (Great Western) abnd Carson &Warneckie (Bromley). Fifteen silver medals were also awarded by the judges to Victorian winemakers, including D. Smith (Eversley), Chateau Tahbilk and Oakley & Adams.”
