The PRC did not participate in the Melbourne Olympics because the ROC was participating. After 1960 the ROC was designated as “Formosa” and then “Chinese Taipei”.

A rare Chinese 1956 Melbourne Olympics poster printed in colour issued by the Chinese Preparatory Committee for Participation in the XVI Olympic Games. The poster depicts gold statue-like figures of a male and a female Chinese athletes marching forward with calm resolute expressions on their faces. The young male athlete holds the Chinese national flag to his right. Symbols of the Olympic Games and the Australia, the host country are highlighted in the left section of the poster. A map of Australia, the Olympic torch indicating Melbourne and above this the Olympic Rings completes the picture. 7 smaller figures of athletes. English title devised by cataloguer. |
