Abstract
This image appeared in Pix, Vol. 9 No. 15 (11 April 1942) in an article about Chinese evacuated from New Guinea and housed in the Chinese Evacuation Home in Burwood. The caption to this image reads “SUPERINTENDENT Matron L. Poland, superintendent of the Chinese Evacuation Home, laughs over the [?] duties with May and Yit Ngo. A roster is drawn up in English and then translated into Chinese. Mrs. Poland has had 10 years experience in New Guinea, where she was married. Her husband is a member of the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles. She last saw him in Wau, and has not heard of him since.”
