Έγγραφα, επιστολές, πρακτικά, αιτήσεις και φωτογραφίες του Ελληνικού Προοδευτικού Συλλόγου Ρήγας Φεραίος, χρονολογίες κατά προσέγγιση 1972-1973 – Documentation, letters, minutes, application forms, and photographs of the Greek progressive association Rigas Feraios
Abstract
Greek progressive association Rigas Feraios was founded by Greeks living in the area of Marrickville c. 1972-1973. Some of the members were also active members of the Greek left movement and the peace movement of Sydney. Τhe association of Rigas Feraios also founded a committee which would protest against the Greek junta in Sydney c. 1968. The story behind this association is that it got founded so as to be able to request from the Australian government the occupation of the army camp located in 142 Addison rd Marrickville, and create instead an ethnic community centre c. 1974. The state government agreed to provide this camp for the use of the broad community for 100 years. Every hut hosted a community ethnic group, but since the Greeks and Turkish were the pioneers, the state government agreed to pass them not only one but two huts for each (a big and a small one). source: Anna Ioannidis (Hellenic Historical and Cultural Centre)
