Abstract
Evdokia Nakou moved to Australia in 1940 (during the Greek – Italian war), and since then she has been actively involved with philanthropy in Newcastle and Sydney.
She was later based in Newtown, she supported Greek newcomers, and helped many of the Greek brides. Particularly, there was a case of a Greek lady (potential bride) who did not end up getting married, and Evdokia organized fund-raising to assist her repatriation. Εvdokia, was also a part of the association Eusevia (Ευσέβεια), which funded 3 Greek schools – later donated to the Orthodox Community of NSW. Εvdokia Nakou has donated extensive material to the Hellenic Historical and Cultural Centre NSW, including newspapers with references to her community work, correspondence, rich photographic material, information about Greek schools, and her biography written by her.
