Abstract

1. Correspondence files, 1942-1945: ‘Melbourne’, Griffith & Leeton & Yenda’, USA Varie (miscellaneous)’, being mainly correspondence, 1943-1945, mainly in Italian, with branch members of Griffith, Leeton and Yenda; and correspondence, 1942-1945, in English and Italian, regarding the case of Antonio Zandona and his application for compassionate leave from work in the Civil Aliens’ Corps in South Australia, to return to his sick wife, Angelina, at Yenda. Correspondents include Angelian Zandona; Jim Healy, General Secretary, Waterside Workers’ Federation of Australia; Laura Gapp, Honorary Secretary, Australian Civil Rights Defence Leagues, and Federal Members of Parliament. ‘S.A. & W.A.’, being correspondence, mainly in Italian, with branch members and Italian anti-Fascists on Aallied Works Council projects in South Australia and Western Australia, including one photograph of Italian workmen. ‘Charcoal camps’, being correspondence, mainly in Italian, with Italians employed at Government Charcoal Camps in New South Wales. ‘Internees’, Being correspondence in English with i.a. Jim Healy, General Secretary, WWF, regarding seeking release of Italian anti-Fascist internees, especially from Loveday Camp in South Australia, including lists of Fascist and anti-Fascist internees, together with a letter to Jessie Street from Noel W. Lamidey, Aliens Classification and Advisory Committee, 27 July 1944. ‘Gruppi Vari (various groups)’, being correspondence, mainly in Italian, with branch members of the Northern Territory, Nth Territory & Tasmania. ‘N.Q. (North Queensland)’, being correspondence, mainly in Italian, with branch members of Brisbane. 2. Personal papers of Tommaso Saviane, 1930-1943.
