The establishment and early years of the Benedictine Mission at New Norcia, Western Australia, and the story of its founder, preceded by a general survey of Australia and followed by accounts of the Aboriginals. Copy of the first Italian edition (1851) bound with engraved plated from the third Spanish edition; includes Europeanised depictions of body decoration (cicatrization, nasal piercing) butchery with taap knife, family group, death spears and spearthrower, fire making and burial not reproduced in other editions. There are notes on the natural history, including accounts of whales and whaling. |
