Abstract
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2892 Private Frederick William Klingner, 4th Pioneer Battalion. Collection consists of a letter to his parents from Altdamm POW camp, describing the conditions as good. Diary gives a vivid description of his capture at Dernancourt in April 1918, and subsequent treatment as a POW at several camps. Discusses lack of food, work, general ill treatment, the November revolution by the German Baltic fleet, and his eventual return to Britain.
