Maps of parts of northern Australia with place names and details written in the Japanese language.

This series comprises three maps with place names and other details written in Japanese. They were created by the Hydrographic Department of Imperial Japanese Navy.

At the bottom of each map, it is printed in Japanese: Published on 25 September 1942, Director of Hydrographical Department, SOEJIMA Daisuke. (In October 1941, Daisuke Soejima was Commander-in-chief, 2nd Expeditionary Fleet of Imperial Japanese Navy, and in November 1941 Director of Hydrographical Department of Imperial Japanese Navy).

Together the maps cover an area from approximately 131-174 degrees longitude and latitude approximately 0-21 degrees south. They include some Pacific Islands, coral reefs, parts of New Guinea and North Queensland, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Arnhem Land.

Details include physical features such as rivers and heights above sea-level, compass variations, place names, railways and roads. A reference to symbols is included with each map, and shows details such as airports (different symbols differentiate between Navy, Army, Public and Non-Public sites), wireless telegraph lines, Roads, Railway, Powerlines. Emergency landing sites and Rescue Points are also detailed. The map scales are either 1:1,500,000 or 1:3,000,000.
