| Description From Source | Yosl Bergner, z”l, painter and descendant of Yiddish writers Hinde Bergner and Meylekh (Melech) Ravitch, was interviewed by Christa Whitney on June 23, 2014 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Yosl Bergner was born in Vienna, Austria in 1920. Yosl died in 2017. Yosl Bergner, z”l, painter, remembers the trip his father, Yiddish writer Melech Ravitch, took to northwestern Australia on a scouting mission for the Freeland League for Jewish Territorial Colonisation, which was seeking a place to build a Jewish state (parallel to but separate from the Zionists). |
