b. MS. containing the narrative of P. B. Milius, on the Naturaliste, October 1800-18 May 1802 when he was landed sick in Sydney. He describes the Western Australian coast, the aborigines, Timor and Tasmania. He sailed from Sydney on 22 July 1802 on the American ship Arthur for China, leaving China on 2 January 1803 on the French ship La Diane. At the Ile de France he was appointed to command of the Geographe, 28 September 1803, after which he returned to Lorient, 25 May 1804. The narrative gives descriptions of places, natives and natural history. The MS. also contains a French-Malay vocabulary, a Kaffir-French-Dutch vocabulary and a French translation of a Dutch account of a voyage to New Guinea by the sloop Waligen, 1663. The MS. is written in two hands. A portrait, probably of Milius, at beginning of MS.
