Daily entries giving details of position, wind direction, temperature etc.; the history and geography of many of the places visited with many extracts translated from the Horsburgh’s ‘Directions for sailing to and from the East Indies, China, New Holland, Cape of Good Hope and the interjacent ports’ ‘Lottin’ printed on front cover. Victor Charles Lottin was an enseigne de vaisseau on the voyage and possibly this journal was kept by him This expedition commanded by Captain Duperrey with Dumont D’Urville as first Lieutenant left Toulon 11 August 1822 visiting many ports and islands in South America and the Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand, before returning to Europe via the Cape of Good Hope. |
