B/W copy print of head and shoulders studio portrait of Chen Chhoi mounted in an oval, card frame. Chen is wearing a loose, dark, collarless garment with button and loop closing, on the chest of which appears to be an attached parchment bearing several Chinese characters. The front of his head is shaved and remaining hair is drawn back. On the back of original was the following: [Chen Chhoi 7611/91], some Chinese symbols in black ink and, in blue biro [Cook for 4 bachelors/living Goldsworthy Rd/Claremont about 1888-1890]. |
