Description From SourceDescription 1 online resource (38 image files) : TIFF, digital. 38 photographs : mostly black and white ; 50 x 30 or smaller, (with mount) Summary A selection of Noreen Jones’ Mise Collection of photographic prints, many were featured in ber book, Number 2 Home: a story of Japanese pioneers in Australia, especially Broome, Western Australia. It is part of a larger collection which includes research notes relating to Japanese people and families in Western Australia before 1942; family history notes relating to ancestors of Noreen Jones; draft manuscript of James Waterhouse King biography; addresses, ephemera. This collection, gathered by contributions from Japanese and Australian families, provides an important record of Japanese migration in WA and serves to correct common misconceptions about the earliest men and women to arrive in the 1880s. Mostly group photographs, the collection includes Asakura’ memorial party in Broome, 1923, Japanese Buddhist School 1st (1919) and 2nd anniversary, Broome (1920) and Iyo House (boarding house of Toyosaburo Mise pearling crew), 1901.
