This postcard was written by Pauline Neufeld in 1941 in Vienna, and sent to her son, Wilhelm, who was being interned in Orange, at an Australian internment camp. The postcard is handwritten but contains no postage stamps or equivalent, as such classification was unnecessary for mail directed to prisoners of war. The correspondence has, however, been stamped for censorship by the mail authorities in Bendigo. The internment camp in Orange, New South Wales, was one of the camps internees were sent to in May 1941. The weather was colder than that in Hay, yet the conditions equally as horrendous.

Center left, stamped in blue ink: 3 Passed by Censor 390 Center left, handwritten in red ink: Bendigo Front side, hand written are the addresses of Pauline in Vienna and of Wilhelm in Orange Camp. Pink round step of the Third Rich, beside a purple step of the censor written: “3 passed by censor 390” Handwritten beneath the stamps: Bendigo, and a few more unclear words.
