Description of series: With the perceived threat on Australia’s security during WWI, police were given the power to investigate individuals suspected of disloyalty. Police acted under the regulations of the War Precautions Act 1914. This series includes papers seized from the Communist Party of Australia, Brisbane Branch and various trade unions. Some are papers belonging to Nicholas Lagutin, an active member of the Communist Party of Australia. Records include correspondence between members of various unions, notes, agenda papers, reports on various activities, notebooks with addresses, press clippings and pamphlets. Some papers are written in Russian. Also includes correspondence between various union officials discussing the Pastoral Workers strike of 1917. This series consists of records merged from BP230/4, BP230/5 and BP230/7. |
