Address reads: Dear Sir, We the undersigned on behalf of the N.S.W. Chinese Anti Opium League, request your acceptance of this small token of our appreciation of your efforts on our behalf when urging the Commonwealth Government to prohibit the further importation of Opium into Australia. We are convinced that had it not been for the keen interest you took in the matter, the splendid results achieved would never have been attained. With you we join in rejoicing at having attained our object and we have no hesitation in saying that the accomplishment will stand as a lasting monument of your efforts to alleviate those unfortunates who were unable to help themselves. We wish you and yours every success in the future and trust you will be long spared to witness the vast amount of happiness that will be wrought by the abolition of this horrible drug – We are, … Signed by the Chairman Yee Hing [King?], Hon. Secretary Samuel Wong, Hon Treasurer Chan See [Sel?], |
