Nederlanders in Bundaberg
Abstract
Article on Dutch people and the establishment of a Dutch association in Bundaberg, QLD.
Translation
Dutch in Bundaberg
There has been a ‘Dutch Aussie Friendship Club’ in Bundaberg since 1989. Coming from Sydney, where there are many Dutch associations, the driving force behind D.A.F.C., Alex Zwarts, discovered that there was no longer a club in Bundaberg.
The last one was defunct 11 years ago. After Alex spoke with several Dutch people in Bundaberg, they decided to start a club. After 31 members in the very early year, we now have more than 60 members.
The uniqueness of D.A.F.C. is that there are more than just members of Dutch descent. Some Australians, Germans and Hungarians are also attracted to the Dutch hospitality. Members range in age from 18 to over 70.
Our own ‘Trio International’ provides musical accompaniment to many club evenings. There is also a Dutch library available that is often used.
Even fellow countrymen on holiday or passing through are happy to come into the friendly club. You can obtain more information from Minnie Hoogvliet at (071)512560
