Docking at Dili, amid a Distant Smell of Flowers
In the South Seas is the island of Timor; Dili lying at its centre.
Four peaks overlook the same water; a vale for immortals, one might same.
Portuguese hasten to claim this famous land.
Europeans shift eastward, make this their bridgehead.
For five hundred years, weakness compounded yields suffering.
Flowers bloom, hospitable; evening breeze wafts their fragrance far away.
