Translation into Italian of notice to taxpayers about to leave Australia, done by William Charles FREEMAN, of Wooroloo Sanatorium [includes reply from Otto de GRANCY] Description of series: Reports of investigations made by the WA Police Force, at the request of Military Intelligence, into the activities, movements and statements of aliens. Copies of letters intercepted by the Military Censor and handed to Intelligence for investigation (with details of subsequent action taken). Recommendations re internment or arrest of enemy aliens following investigation into their activities and statements. Reports of investigations made into the activities of organisations thought to be opposed to the allied cause, amongst these are: – the Anti-Conscription League, International Workers of the World and various alien societies. Results of investigations made following receipt of information from numbers of individuals who reported supposed enemy activities in Australia. History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer: The series was created by Intelligence Section general staff, 5th Military District, Western Australia during the First World War. Following the creation of the Commonwealth Investigation Branch (now known as Commonwealth Investigation Service) in 1919 all files were transferred to their custody. |
