Italian
Italian speakers settled in both rural and urban areas of Australia from the nineteenth century onwards. Examples of Italian language materials in Australian holdings include the Australian War Memorial’s (AWM) extensive collection of primarily handwritten newspapers produced by Italians in Australia during the Second World War. The National Library of Australia (NAA) and the Public Records Office of Victoria have many files on Italians and their war experiences, both the experiences of Italians who were already living in Australia, and those of PoWs, brought to this country from the battlefields in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
